Do you love Jesus?

Image
So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [with total commitment and devotion]?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]." Jesus said to him, "Feed My lambs." Again He said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with total commitment and devotion]?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]." Jesus said to him, "Shepherd My sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with a deep, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend]?" Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, "Do you [really] love Me [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You [with a

Am I giving thanks?

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night, For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands. - Psalm 92:1-2,4 (NKJV) As a matter of fact, God isn't asking you to be thankful. He's asking you to give thanks. There's a big difference. One response involves emotions, the other your choices, your decisions about a situation, your intent, your step of faith. - Joni Eareckson Tada Come before him with thankful hearts. Let us sing him psalms of praise. For the Lord is a great God, the great King of all gods. He controls the formation of the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains; all are his. He made the sea and formed the land; they, too, are his. Come, kneel before the Lord, our Maker, for he is our God. We are his sheep, and he is our Shepherd. Oh, that you would hear him calling you today and come t

Am I abiding in Christ?

I am the real vine; my Father is the vine-dresser. He removes any of my branches which are not bearing fruit, and he prunes every branch that does bear fruit to increase its yield. Now, you have already been pruned by my words. You must go on growing in me, and I will grow in you. For just as the branch cannot bear any fruit unless it shares the life of the vine, so you can produce nothing unless you go on growing in me. I am the vine itself; you are the branches. It is the man who shares my life and whose life I share who proves fruitful. For the plain fact is that apart from me, you can do nothing at all. The man who does not share my life is like a branch that is broken off and withers away. He becomes just like the dry sticks that men pick up and use for the firewood. But if you live your life in me, and my words live in your hearts, you can ask for whatever you like, and it will come true for you. This is how my Father will be glorified—in your becoming fruitful and being my disci

How can I know I'm saved? - Part 5

Image
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16 (Living Bible) People have always stumbled over the simplicity of salvation. That is why there are so many cults. Each one has a unique slant on the doctrine of salvation - and each one corrupts the simplicity of the gospel revealed in God's Word by espousing salvation by human works. Each one of the major cults claims to have a key that unlocks the secret of salvation. Yet, they all are alike in propagating self-righteous achievement as the way to God. From start to finish, God's Word disproves them all and in a wonderfully consistent way. Its message, woven through sixty-six books, written over a span of fifteen hundred years by more than forty different authors, is marvelously unified and congruous. The message is simply that God graciously saves repentant sinners who come to him in faith. There is no secret there, no mystery, no ob

How can I know I'm saved - Part 4

But, dearly loved friends, if our consciences are clear, we can come to the Lord with perfect assurance and trust, and get whatever we ask for because we are obeying him and doing the things that please him. And this is what God says we must do: Believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another. Those who do what God says—they are living with God and he with them. We know this is true because the Holy Spirit he has given us tells us so. - 1 John 3:21-24 (Living Bible) The three major evidences of a transformed follower of Jesus Christ and true salvation are believing, loving, and obeying. 1. Believe “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” - Acts 16:30b-31a (NKJV) 2. Love One day an expert on Moses’ laws came to test Jesus’ orthodoxy by asking him this question: “Teacher, what does a man need to do to live forever in heaven?” Jesus replied, “What does Moses’ law say about it?”
