Am I giving thanks?

 It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night,
For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work;
I will triumph in the works of Your hands. - Psalm 92:1-2,4 (NKJV)

As a matter of fact, God isn't asking you to be thankful. He's asking you to give thanks. There's a big difference. One response involves emotions, the other your choices, your decisions about a situation, your intent, your step of faith. - Joni Eareckson Tada

Come before him with thankful hearts. Let us sing him psalms of praise. For the Lord is a great God, the great King of all gods. He controls the formation of the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains; all are his. He made the sea and formed the land; they, too, are his. Come, kneel before the Lord, our Maker, for he is our God. We are his sheep, and he is our Shepherd. Oh, that you would hear him calling you today and come to him! - Psalm 95:2-7 (Living Bible)

Edwards [Jonathan Edwards] calls the deeper, primary form of thankfulness' gracious gratitude.' It gives thanks not for goods received but for who God is: for His character -- His goodness, love, power, and excellencies -- regardless of favors received. And it's real evidence of the Holy Spirit working in a person's life." – Chuck Colson.

But thank God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient with all your heart to the standard of teaching in which you were instructed and to which you were committed. And having been set free from sin, you have become the slaves of righteousness [of conformity to God's will and purpose]. - Romans 6:17-18 (Amplified Bible)

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son.

And now let the weak say, "I am strong."
Let the poor say, "I am rich"
Because of what the Lord has done for us."
Give thanks  - Don Moen

A spirit of thankfulness is one of the most distinctive marks of a Christian whose heart is attuned to the Lord. Thank God in the midst of trials and every persecution." –Billy Graham

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen. - Thomas Ken

Be Encouraged to substitute passive and generic thankfulness with proactive and specific giving of thanks!
