Am I putting God first in everything?

Image
The Lord is my light and my salvation; he protects me from danger—whom shall I fear? When evil men come to destroy me, they will stumble and fall! Yes, though a mighty army marches against me, my heart shall know no fear! I am confident that God will save me. The one thing I want from God, the thing I seek most of all, is the privilege of meditating in his Temple, living in his presence every day of my life, delighting in his incomparable perfections and glory. There I’ll be when troubles come. He will hide me. He will set me on a high rock out of reach of all my enemies. Then I will bring him sacrifices and sing his praises with much joy. Tell me what to do, O Lord, and make it plain because I am surrounded by waiting enemies. Don’t be impatient. Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save you! Be brave, stouthearted, and courageous. Yes, wait, and he will help you. - Psalm 27:1-6,11,14 (Living Bible) If you want favor with both God and man and a reputation for good judgment and comm

So be careful. If you are thinking, “Oh, I would never behave like that”—let this be a warning to you. For you too may fall into sin. But remember this—the wrong desires that come into your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. He will show you how to escape temptation’s power so that you can bear up patiently against it. So, dear friends, carefully avoid idol worship of every kind. - 1 Corinthians 10:12-14 (Living Bible) In whatever man does without God, he must fail miserably, or succeed more miserably. - George MacDonald “And now, O priests, this commandment is for you. If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name,” Says the Lord of hosts, “I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessi

Who is Jesus to me?

"Tell everyone to sit down," Jesus ordered. And all of them—the approximate count of the men only was five thousand—sat down on the grassy slopes. Then Jesus took the loaves and gave thanks to God, and passed them out to the people. Afterward, he did the same with the fish. And everyone ate until full! "Now gather the scraps," Jesus told his disciples, "so that nothing is wasted." And twelve baskets were filled with the leftovers! When the people realized what a great miracle had happened, they exclaimed, "Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting! Jesus saw that they were ready to take him by force and make him their king, so he went higher into the mountains alone. - John 6:10-15 (Living Bible) The crowd referred to "the Prophet" of Deuteronomy 18:15. Sadly, these comments, coming right after Jesus healed and fed them, indicate that the people desired a Messiah who met their physical, rather than spiritual, needs. Apparently, no re

Am I living victoriously?

For it was through reading the Scripture that I came to realize that I could never find God's favor by trying—and failing—to obey the laws. I came to realize that acceptance of God comes by believing in Christ. I have been crucified with Christ: and I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. And the real life I now have within this body is a result of my trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. - Galatians 2:19-20 (Living Bible) "The fact of the indwelling Christ is the guarantee that all of the power which was put forth in raising Jesus Christ from the dead is now available to #1 keep down the power of death that is in us by nature and #2 to keep you victorious through the life that is the very life of Christ in His resurrection which is now ours." - Donald Gray Barnhouse But just as it is written [in Scripture], "Things which the eye has not seen and the ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has

Does my life emanate the glory of God?

Moses responded, "Then show me your glorious presence." The Lord replied, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose. But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live." The Lord continued, "Look, stand near me on this rock. As my glorious presence passes by, I will hide you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and let you see me from behind. But my face will not be seen." When Moses came down from Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn't aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord. - Exodus 33:18-23; 34:29 (NLT) Then He said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord." And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wi
