Am I truly thankful?

Image
Over the last 24 months, we have seen firsthand the devastating impact that the author of confusion and deceit has had on this world. In spite of all the chaos he has created, we are reminded in God's Word that he and his his evil army along with sin, death and hell have all been defeated by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As transformed followers of Jesus Christ, we serve a risen and victorious Savior who has conquered the evil one. On this day that we focus on all that we have to be thankful for and all that God has done for us, rather than focus entirely on what God has done for us, this message focuses our thankfulness for who God is. There is no more eloquent description of God’s attributes than in David's Psalm 139. God's Omniscience O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am.

Am I healthy?

I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you've picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time, you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one—baby's milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God's ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong. - Hebrews 5:11-14 For a human body to remain healthy, how often should it be fed? Is discipline in the quantity and quality of food important to the health of the body? For athletes to compete at a high level, how often should they train? Is discipline in the quantity and quality of training important for an athlete to achieve success? How many times each week am I reading God's Word, the Bible, for more than 15 minutes? When answering the last question, did you subtract out time spe

Am I reading the Word of God?

And all the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra, the scribe, to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the Lord had commanded Israel. And he read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people, and as he opened it, all the people stood. And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, "Amen, Amen," lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. And day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day; for another quarter of it they made co

Is my life characterized by the fruit of the Spirit? - Part 2

But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit's power, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. - Galatians 5:22-25 The fruit of the Spirit is manifested in a person that the Holy Spirit truly indwells. As we yield control of our lives to Jesus Christ through unconditional obedience, the Holy Spirit supernaturally works within us to produce the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit is not produced by our trying to live the Christian life. Instead, the fruit of the Spirit is produced when we allow Jesus Christ to live His life through us as we remain unconditionally obedient to His will. Kindness -  a tender concern for others, reflected in a desire to treat others gently, just as the L
