Is my light visible?

You are the world’s light—it is impossible to hide a town built on the top of a hill. Men do not light a lamp and put it under a bucket. They put it on a lamp-stand and it gives light for everybody in the house. Let your light shine like that in the sight of men. Let them see the good things you do and praise your Father in Heaven. - Matthew 5:14-16 (Phillips)

Salt is the influence of Christian character. It is quiet, but it is powerful. Light is the communication of the content of the gospel. On the one hand, we live it; on the other hand, we preach it. God is light, and the Bible or the Word of God is light, and Christ is light; and that is the light that we are to shine on the world. We are to tell them about God, we’re to tell them about God’s Word, and we’re to tell them about God’s Christ. That’s letting the light shine. It has to be spoken, and then it has to be supported by a life that is consistent. - John MacArthur

This is the ministry of the new agreement which God in his mercy has given us and nothing can daunt us. We use no hocus-pocus, no clever tricks, no dishonest manipulation of the Word of God. We speak the plain truth and so commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. If our Gospel is “veiled”, the veil must be in the minds of those who are spiritually dying. The spirit of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, and prevents the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, the image of God, from shining on them. For it is Christ Jesus the Lord whom we preach, not ourselves; we are your servants for his sake. God, who first ordered ‘light to shine in darkness’, has flooded our hearts with his light. We now can enlighten men only because we can give them knowledge of the glory of God, as we see it in the face of Jesus Christ. - 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 (Phillips)

The way to change the world isn’t to change it politically. The way to change the world isn’t to rewrite the laws. It isn’t to march, and it isn’t to try to use all of the technical paraphernalia for altering society. The way to change the world is to infiltrate it with godliness, and righteousness, and holiness, and affect it from the inside out. Now those other things aren’t wrong, but they are going to be powerless, unless our lives are what they ought to be. - John MacArthur

Am I proactively communicating the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Am I supporting my message with a life that is consistently God honoring?

What you do speaks so loudly that what you say I cannot hear.

Jesus calls His followers to live in a way that influences the world for good. Salt preserves, seasons, and heals; light exposes darkness and reveals truth. In a culture that often resists godliness, it’s easy to grow timid or compromise our witness. Yet Christ did not call us to blend in, He called us to stand out for His glory. When we live humbly, serve others, and reflect Christ’s character, our lives become a visible testimony of His grace. The world may oppose the message, but there will always be hearts drawn to the Savior through the quiet, steady light of His people. Our prayer should be to remain pure salt and shining light—effective, visible, and useful in His harvest.

Is my daily conduct and conversation enhancing the effectiveness of my salt and light or rendering them useless and invisible?

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. - Matthew 9:36-37 (NLT)

O God, may we be salt that is effective and light that is visible. May we be a city set on a hill. May our lights so shine that men may see our good works and glorify the Father in Heaven. Deliver us from the sins that would render us ineffective. Deliver us from fear, from pride, and from the exaltation of self that covers our light. Help us to live in a way that honors You and makes a difference in the world. We know we will face resistance from the world, yet even in opposition, may our lives point others to Jesus Christ. Use us, Lord, in the world’s wheat field to seek and find those who are lost. Amen

Be Encouraged to enhance the effectiveness of your salt and visibility of your light by living righteously and speaking purposefully.
