Am I spiritually stable?
Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. - Philippians 4:4-7 (Amplified Bible)
If you imagine that God can’t help you, then you have created a god other than the true God, and that’s blasphemy. You have created a god who is not God. If you believe that God could help you but won’t, that’s blasphemy, too, because you’re questioning not His character, but His integrity and His Word. So the key to a stable, firmly planted life from Psalm 1 is to be delighting in the Lord. I delight in who He is. In meditating on His law, I become very familiar with how He acts. And as I understand who He is and how He acts, I can look at my life and say, “That’s the one who’s near, this is who He is, this is how He acts; I’m not going to worry.” The great weakness of the Christian church today is a lack of understanding about who God is and how God acts. They do not understand the majesty of His wonderful attributes, and that is why we have such wholesale instability. Because we do not know God, we do not trust God to act consistently with His revealed character and His revealed history of acts. - John MacArthur
Your thoughts of God are too human. - Martin Luther
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the way of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of Yahweh,
And in His law he meditates day and night. - Psalm 1:1-2 (LSB)
The God of this century no more resembles the sovereign of holy writ than does the dim flickering of a candle resemble the glory of the mid-day sun. The God who is talked about in the average pulpit, spoken of in the ordinary Sunday school class, and mentioned in so much of the religious literature of the day and preached in most of the so-called Bible conferences, is a figment of human imagination and invention of maudlin sentimentality.” - A. W. Pink, Gleanings in the Godhead
Though the fig tree does not blossom
And there is no fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive fails
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock is cut off from the fold
And there are no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will [choose to] rejoice in the Lord;
I will [choose to] shout in exultation in the [victorious] God of my salvation!
The Lord God is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army];
He has made my feet [steady and sure] like hinds’ feet
And makes me walk [forward with spiritual confidence] on my high places [of challenge and responsibility]. - Habakkuk 3:17-19 (Amplified Bible)
What are the virtues of spiritual stability?
Peace - harmony in the fellowship of love. Be engaged in a local church of transformed followers of Jesus Christ that preaches the full counsel of God;
Joy - an overruling joy in the Lord that is not subject to my circumstances;
Humility - a graciousness that demands nothing, accepts anything, and commits everything to an Omniscient God.
Faith - a reasoned response to revealed truth. That great confident trust in the Sovereign God of the universe that knows that He’s got it all under control.
Gratitude - reacting to problems with thankful prayer and an understanding that nothing touches the child of God that is not allowed by Him for their good and His glory.
In You, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be ashamed;
In Your righteousness protect me. Incline Your ear to me, deliver me quickly;
Be to me a rock of strength,
A fortress to save me.
For You are my high rock and my fortress;
For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.
You will bring me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my strength.
Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have ransomed me,
O Yahweh, God of truth. - Psalm 31:1-5 (LSB)
Believers who really know their God can say, “My God is in this; my God has His purposes.” Spurgeon once said, “If you believe that everything turns on the free will of man, you will naturally have man as the principle figure in your landscape.” Now, you’re really stuck with a dilemma because you know how weak man is and you know how fickle man is, so you have every reason to be full of anxiety. People with right theology shouldn’t have anxiety problems. I really believe that this pervasive sort of Arminian theology that exists in the church today is the precursor to all this anxiety of people who still believe they’ve got to orchestrate their life and it’s sort of on their own. They’ve got to try to do it with the help of some well-meaning people who’ve got some formulas that might work. This is foolishness. If you are going to be stable in the tough times of life, it is born out of an absolute distrust of yourself and a total trust in the sovereign God of grace and power. And if you trust that God, you stand stable. - John MacArthur
God, I don't know how to come to you. I need to know you, to sense your presence, to feel your love, more than anything else. But I don't know what to do. Every path I follow leads back to me. I must find the way to you! I know you're all I have. But I don't know you well enough for you to be all I need.
Please let me find you. - Larry Crabb, Finding God
The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace
Because he trusts in You. - Isaiah 26:3 (LSB)
Be Encouraged to find spiritual stability and His perfect peace by wholly immersing yourself in His Word daily.
