Is He increasing?
He must increase, but I must decrease. - John 3:30 (LSB)
Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. - 2 Peter 3:18 (LSB)
Am I growing in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
Feed what you want to grow, starve what you want to die.
Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation. - 1 Peter 2:2 LSB
Am I growing in the knowledge of His Word?
You are either growing or you are shrinking, there is no net neutral.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern both good and evil. - Hebrews 5:12-14 (LSB)
Have I matured from milk to the solid food of His Word?
How much time am I spending in His Word each day?
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (LSB)
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the way of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of Yahweh,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers. - Psalm 1:1-3 (LSB)
Read the Bible daily. Make it part of your everyday business to read and meditate on some portion of God's Word. Gather your manna fresh every morning. Choose your own seasons and hours. Do not scramble over and hurry your reading. Give your Bible the best, and not the worst, part of your time. But whatever plan you pursue, let it be a rule of your life to visit the throne of grace and the Bible every day. - J. C. Ryle
