Do I know God?

“I am the First and the Last; there is no other God. Who is like me? Let him step forward and prove to you his power. Let him do as I have done since ancient times when I established a people and explained its future. Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? Guidance, like all God's acts of blessing under the covenant of grace, is a sovereign act. "Wait on the Lord" is a constant refrain in the Psalms, and it is a necessary word, for God often keeps us waiting. He is not in such a hurry as we are, and it is not his way to give more light on the future than we need for action in the present, or to guide us more than one step at a time. Millions call themselves by His name, it is true, and pay some token homage to Him, but a simple test will show how little He is really honored among them.
