Am I living above reproach?

Let me be your example here, my brothers: let my example be the standard by which you can tell who are the genuine Christians among those about you. For there are many, of whom I have told you before and tell you again now, even with tears, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. These men are heading for utter destruction—their God is their own appetite, their pride is in what they should be ashamed of, and this world is the limit of their horizon. But we are citizens of Heaven; our outlook goes beyond this world to the hopeful expectation of the savior who will come from Heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will re-make these wretched bodies of ours to resemble his own glorious body, by that power of his which makes him the master of everything that is. - Philippians 3:17-21 (Phillips)

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in Heaven. You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into spiritual maturity both in mind and character, actively integrating godly values into your daily life], as your heavenly Father is perfect. - Matthew 5:16,48 (Amplified Bible)

Ethical integrity is one of the indispensable attributes of Christlike character. As vital as it is to be sound in doctrine and faithful in teaching the truth of Scripture, it is by no means less crucial for Christians to be upright in heart and consistent in our obedience to the moral and ethical principles of God's law. That is no simple duty, by the way. The moral standard God's people are supposed to live by far surpasses even the highest principles of normal human ethics. No believer should ever knowingly sacrifice his or her ethical integrity. - John MacArthur

Why is it important that the transformed follower of Christ maintain ethical integrity?

1. Your Reputation

As God's steward, the overseer must be blameless, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain [but financially ethical]. And he must be hospitable [to believers, as well as strangers], a lover of what is good, sensible (upright), fair, devout, and self-disciplined [above reproach—whether in public or in private]. - Titus 1:7-8 (Amplified Bible)

Would...
my co-workers,
my employees,
my children,
my tax preparer,
those reading my texts and posts,
those observing me on Saturday night,
He who knows my thoughts,
...characterize me by Titus 1:7-8?

Would they want to attend my church?

2. Your Character

For out of the heart come evil thoughts and plans, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, and slanders (verbal abuse, irreverent speech, blaspheming). These are the things that defile and dishonor the man. - Matthew 15:19-20a (Amplified Bible)

What is my conduct when no one else is watching?

"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven. - Matthew 5:13-16 (ESV)

Are salt and light present when walking the gray line?

3. Your Testimony

Your reputation reflects what people say about you.
Your testimony is what your character, your behavior, and your words say about God.
- John MacArthur

To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - Proverbs 21:3 (ESV)

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. - Psalm 51:6 (ESV)

The person who neglects ethical integrity is telling a lie about God with his life and his attitude and is, in fact, taking God's name in vain at the most fundamental level. - John MacArthur

What do my character, behavior, and words say about God?

[Live] as obedient children [of God]; do not be conformed to the evil desires which governed you in your ignorance [before you knew the requirements and transforming power of the good news regarding salvation]. But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage]; because it is written, "You shall be holy (set apart), for I am holy." - 1 Peter 1:14-16 (Amplified Bible)

Be Encouraged to live above reproach.
