How can I know I'm saved?
Dear children, this world's last hour has come. You have heard about the Antichrist who is coming—the one who is against Christ—and already many such persons have appeared. This makes us all the more certain that the end of the world is near. These "against-Christ" people used to be members of our churches, but they never really belonged with us, or else they would have stayed. When they left us, it proved that they were not of us at all. But you are not like that, for the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you know the truth.
So I am not writing to you as to those who need to know the truth, but I warn you as those who can discern the difference between true and false. And who is the greatest liar? The one who says that Jesus is not Christ. Such a person is Antichrist, for he does not believe in God the Father and in his Son. For a person who doesn't believe in Christ, God's Son, can't have God the Father either. But he who has Christ, God's Son, has God the Father also. So keep on believing what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will always be in close fellowship with both God the Father and his Son. And he himself has promised us this: eternal life. - 1 John 2:18-25 (Living Bible)
The events of the last few years have significantly tested our faith. From pandemic to politics, identity to infanticide, truth to tolerance. Satan has used these events to polarize the church and those that profess to be Christians. Many churches have chosen to pursue tolerance over truth. As referenced in the passage above, "they never really belonged with us, or else they would have stayed." For the transformed follower of Jesus Christ, these events have challenged us to dig deeper into the Word of God, solidifying our faith in the only source of absolute truth in this world, dispelling the fear promoted by this world's "experts", and executing a life of increased faith in the Sovereign, Immutable God of all creation.
They went out from us [seeming at first to be Christians], but they were not really of us [because they were not truly born again and spiritually transformed]; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out [teaching false doctrine], so that it would be clearly shown that none of them are of us. - 1 John 2:19 (Amplified Bible)
Now, little children (believers, dear ones), remain in Him [with unwavering faith] so that when He appears [at His return], we may have [perfect] confidence and not be ashamed and shrink away from Him at His coming. If you know that He is absolutely righteous, you know [for certain] that everyone who practices righteousness [doing what is right and conforming to God's will] has been born of Him. - 1 John 2:28-29 (Amplified Bible)
This is His commandment, that we believe [with personal faith and confident trust] in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and [that we unselfishly] love and seek the best for one another, just as He commanded us. - 1 John 3:23 (Amplified Bible)
Whoever confesses and acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he is in God. - 1 John 4:15 (Amplified Bible)
The one who believes in the Son of God [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies confidently on Him as Savior] has the testimony within himself [because he can speak authoritatively about Christ from his own personal experience]. The one who does not believe God [in this way] has made Him [out to be] a liar, because he has not believed in the evidence that God has given regarding His Son. And the testimony is this: God has given us eternal life [we already possess it], and this life is in His Son [resulting in our spiritual completeness, and eternal companionship with Him]. He who has the Son [by accepting Him as Lord and Savior] has the life [that is eternal]; he who does not have the Son of God [by personal faith] does not have the life. - 1 John 5:10-12 (Amplified Bible)
You once lived in sin and loved it.
Do you now desire deliverance from it?
You were once self-confident and trusting in your own fancied goodness.
Do you now judge yourself as a sinner before God?
You once sought to hide from God and rebelled against His authority.
Do you now look up to Him, desiring to know Him and to yield yourself to Him?
If you can honestly say "Yes" to these questions, you have repented.… And remember, it is not the amount of repentance that counts: it is the fact that you turn from self to God that puts you in the place where His grace avails through Jesus Christ.
- John MacArthur, Saved Without A Doubt: Being Sure of Your Salvation
Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee.
Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee.
Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee. - Frances Havergal
As the principle evidence of life is motion, so the principle evidence of saving grace is holy living.
- Jonathan Edwards
