What is my primary purpose in this life?
Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away. Look, all things have become new. All this is from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their sins against them, and has entrusted to us the message of reconciliation. So we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us. We implore you in Christ's stead: Be reconciled to God. - 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 (MEV)
As transformed followers of Jesus Christ, our primary purpose in this world is not providing for our family, being faithful with all we have been entrusted with, excelling in any endeavor to which we are called, or even being a good and moral person who helps others in need. Wait...What?? Does that mean that these responsible behaviors are not important? Absolutely not! They are important because responsible living is one evidence of a transformed life. However, these responsible behaviors, even though they will be rewarded in heaven, are not the primary purpose for our life here on earth and have absolutely no impact on our entrance into heaven.
No person will enter heaven based on their responsible behavior, good works, moral living, or any other effort of their own.
For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
The only people to enter heaven will be those that repent, believe, and receive the free gift of salvation as provided by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The sinless Son of God is the only acceptable sacrifice for our sin in the eyes of a Holy God. This is the only way to be reconciled to God.
As Christ-followers, our ultimate desire is to spend eternity with our Creator in heaven. In comparison to eternity in heaven, our handful of decades on this earth are relatively insignificant with respect to time but immeasurably meaningful with what we have been called to do. As ambassadors for Christ, our primary purpose is to communicate passionately the message of how to be reconciled to God.
The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.
The key is not to prioritize what is on your schedule but to schedule your priorities. - Steven Covey
In an honest, introspective evaluation of my life today, what is my main thing?
Our role model for life on this earth lived only 33 years and changed the world forever because He remained faithful to the main thing, the will of the Father.
We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned to us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world. - John 9:4-5 (NLT)
Live life, then, with a due sense of responsibility, not as men who do not know the meaning and purpose of life but as those who do. Make the best use of your time, despite all the difficulties of these days. Don't be vague but firmly grasp what you know to be the will of God. - Ephesians 5:15-17 (Phillips)
As an ambassador for Christ, am I proactively communicating the message of being reconciled to God with the people that God has placed in my life to influence?
Be Encouraged to keep the will of God your main thing in this life.
