Am I obedient to God?

Christ did not elect himself to the honor of being High Priest; no, he was chosen by God. God said to him, "My Son, today I have honored you." And another time, God said to him, "You have been chosen to be a priest forever, with the same rank as Melchizedek." Yet while Christ was here on earth, he pleaded with God, praying with tears and agony of soul to the only one who would save him from premature death. And God heard his prayers because of his strong desire to obey God at all times. And even though Jesus was God's Son, he had to learn from experience what it was like to obey when obeying meant suffering. It was after he had proved himself perfect in this experience that Jesus became the Giver of eternal salvation to all those who obey him. - Hebrews 5:5-9 (TLB)

The following is an excerpt from Experiencing the Presence of God by AW Tozer.

Christ has given eternal salvation to those who believe in Him and obey Him. Trust is on one side of the coin, and obey on the other. But the Church has taken a fine saw and split them, saying, "You don't have to obey. Just believe." Everything is "believe." You cannot divide that coin. You cannot separate it; if you do, it is no good. It is not just trusting; it is not just obeying. It is trust and obey. Believe God, then get obedience. You will find that it will become in your heart eternal salvation. Jesus Christ will become your all in all.

Jesus took no road of convenience, nor did He seek a shortcut. He is our guide because He prayed, "Not as I will, but as thou wilt." He earned our trust and obedience because He did not take the path of convenience but went the way of the cross, died for us, and became Our Great High Priest.

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do His goodwill,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy He bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey. - John Sammis
