What do I give to the King?

Image
Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? - Luke 6:46 (LSB) Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. - Philippians 2:11(LSB) At the heart of the Christian faith stands a simple yet searching confession: Jesus Christ is Lord. This declaration is more than doctrinal accuracy—it is a call to surrender. Christ is Lord by divine right, whether I acknowledge Him or not. The real question is whether I joyfully submit to His authority. If Jesus is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all. - A. W. Tozer Jesus does not offer Himself in parts - Savior without King, forgiveness without authority. Scripture presents Him as both. True faith receives Him as He is—Lord and Savior. The gospel Jesus preached was a call to discipleship, a call to follow Him in submissive obedience, not just a call to make a decision. - John MacArthur And this is how we know [daily, by experience] that we have come to know Him [to understand Him and be more deeply...

Am I choosing joy?

All the people began sobbing when they heard the commands of the law. Then Ezra the priest, and I as governor, and the Levites who were assisting me said to them, “Don’t cry on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God— it is a time to celebrate with a hearty meal and to send presents to those in need, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. You must not be dejected and sad!” And the Levites, too, quieted the people, telling them, “That’s right! Don’t weep! For this is a day of holy joy, not of sadness.” So the people went away to eat a festive meal and to send presents; it was a time of great and joyful celebration because they could hear and understand God’s words. - Nehemiah 8:9-12 (Living Bible) What stands out is that God did not allow the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem to stop with stone and mortar. Once the wall was finished, He turned His attention to the hearts of the people. The physical wall, though modest compared to former glory and ...

Why adversity?

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.  For those whom He foreknew [and loved and chose beforehand], He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son [and ultimately share in His complete sanctification], so that He would be the firstborn [the most beloved and honored] among many believers.  And those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified [declared free of the guilt of sin]; and those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity]. - Romans 8:28-30 (Amplified Bible) Adversity is a bridge to a closer relationship with God. - Charles Stanley I will say this: because these experiences I had were so tremendous, God was afraid I might be puffed up by them; so I was given a physical condition which has been a thorn in my flesh...

Who is the Holy Spirit?

Image
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener), to be with you forever—  the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him,  you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you  and will be in you. - John 14:16-17 (Amplified Bible) Do not quench the Spirit - 1 Thessalonians 5:19 (LSB) What does the Holy Spirit want to do in me that I can quench?  Very simply stated, He wants to move you along a path to ever-increasing holiness. What does holy mean? Separate. He wants to separate you further and further from sin, and the further you get away from sin, the closer you get to God. It’s just a process of separation. He wants to produce in you the decreasing frequency of sin, the decreasing power of temptation, the decreasing preoccupation with the world, the decreasing victimization to the flesh, and increase your longings for ...
